Setting
up KwikShield in Microsft Outlook
Virus and Junkmail Guard
<< back
to KwikShield Main Page
Lets Begin
- To begin the first thing we have to do is to open Microsoft Outlook.
- Once Outlook is up and running we can begin by first clicking on the
"Tools" menu and then clicking on "Rules Wizard".
- This will open the Rules Wizard window. Here we will have to click
the "New" button.
- Now we can define how we want our filter to check each email message.
So we must make sure that we have "Check messages when they arrive"
selected. Once this is done we can click the Next button.
- Now we have to scroll through the list provided until we find "with
specific words in the message header". Here we have to place a checkmark
in the box. This will now appear below. Click in the sentence where
it reads "specific words".
- Here we will see that a new window appeared. In this box we have to
type in the words "SpamAssassin". It is important to type this
in exactly as it appears here. Then we can click OK.
- This will close the smaller window and we now have to click "Next".
Now we will have to decide what we want to do with the emails that have
been tagged as junk emails. In the list we can choose to move it to
a specific folder, delete it, or many other options. Here we will place
a checkmark in the box next to "Move it to a specified folder".
Then we have to click on the word specified in the filter description
located in the "Rule Description" box.
- Here another window will open, allowing us to choose which folder
we want the junk email to be moved to. In this example we are moving
it straight into the "Deleted Items" folder. To select this folder
or any other just click on it so that it becomes highlighted. Now we
can click on the OK button. This will return us back to the previous
window but we will see that the folder we selected is now also in the
description box. Next all we have to do is click "Next".
- Here we can make exceptions to our rule, but we do not have to because
KwikShield is only marking the junk email and emails that contain
a virus. So on this window all we have to do is click "Next".
- Now we are presented with the last window. Here all that needs to
be done is to click on the "Finish" button.
- Now that we have setup our email program to filter out the junk email
we now have to create a filter to filter out the emails that contain
a virus. To do this we have to do almost the same process but with a
few different settings. So at the Rules Wizard window we have to click
the "New" button again.
In this box we have to
type in the words "Found to be infected". It is important to
type this in exactly as it appears here. Then we can click OK.
- This will close the smaller window and we now have to click "Next".
Now we will have to decide what we want to do with the emails that have
been tagged as containing a virus. In the list we can choose to move
it to a specific folder, delete it, or many other options. Here we will
place a checkmark in the box next to "Move it to a specified folder".
- Here we do not want any exceptions to our filter rule that we just
setup. So in this window all that is left is to click the "Finish"
button.
- This will return us to the original rules wizard window. Here we can
see both of the email filters that we just created. All that is left
to do in this window is to click the OK button. Now when we check
our email the filters will automatically move the tagged emails both
junk mail, and email that contains a virus, to the folders that we chose.
