Before we can begin to setup a filter in Outlook Express the first
thing we have to do is to start Outlook Express.
Once Outlook Express is up and running we can begin to create our
mail filter by first clicking on the "Tools" menu and then selecting
"Message Rules", finally click on "Mail".
This will open a new window. Here we will have to place a checkmark
beside "Where the Subject line contains specific words".
Next we will have to decide what we want to do with the email that
has been tagged as being junk mail or containing a virus. In this example
we have chosen to delete these emails so we have placed the checkmark
next to "Delete it" in the second box.
Now in the third box we will have to click where it reads "contains
specific words".
This will open another window. Here we are asked to type the specific
word we are looking for. So in the smaller box we will have to type
in "Virus". Once we have that typed in we have to click on the
"Add" button. This will cause our word to drop down to the lower
box. Now in the same box we have to type in "Spam". Then once
again we will have to click the "Add" button. Once again it will
drop down to the lower box. Now all that is left is to hit the OK
button.
This will return us back to our original window where we defined the
conditions of our mail filter. Here all we have to do is to click the
OK button.
Now we will be returned to the Message Rules window. Here we can see
that our filter is now listed with a little description under it. All
that we need to do here to complete the process is to hit the OK
button. Once that is done our email filter is now setup to remove both
virus's and junkmail.
