Setting up KwikShield in Netscape Messenger
Virus and Junkmail Guard

Lets Begin

  1. Before we can setup mail filtering rules in Netscape Messenger we must first start Netscape Messenger.


  2. Once Netscape Messenger is up and running we can begin by clicking on the "Edit" menu. Then selecting "Message Filters" from the menu.


  3. This will open a new window, here we have to click the "New" button.


  4. Another window will open and the first thing we have to do is give our filter a name. In this example we just called it "My Filter" but you can call it whatever you like. Once we have named our filter we now have to click on the "Advanced" button.


  5. Another window will appear, here we have to add our own custom header information. So in the "New message header" box we will have to type in X-MailScanner-SpamCheck and then click on the "Add" button. This will now drop down to the larger box below. Again in the "New message header" box we have to also type in X-MailScanner and again click on the "Add" button. This to will drop down to the larger box. Now we can click OK.


  6. Now we will find ourselves on the original filter window. Here we will now see that our custom header information is now in the drop down menu. So in the menu we must select "X-MailScanner-Spam". The next menu should be set to "contains" by default, we do not have to change this. Now all that is left is to type into the box SpamAssassin. It is important to have entered everything exactly as it appears here for the filter to work properly. Now we click on the "More" button.


  7. Here we will now see that our custom header information is now in the second drop down menu. So in the second menu we must select "X-MailScanner". The next menu should be set to "contains" by default, we do not have to change this. Now all that is left is to type into the box Found to be infected. It is important to have entered everything exactly as it appears here for the filter to work properly.

    Our next step is to decide what we want to do with the filtered out email. In this example we have decided to move the filtered email to a different folder for later review. To have the filtered out email moved to a different folder we first have to select "Move to folder" from the "then" drop down menu. Then we can choose which folder we want the email sent to. Here we used a folder called junkmail. To finish all that is left is to click the OK button.


  8. This will return us to the original filter setup window, but now we can see that our filter "My Filter" is now listed. All that is left to do here is to click the OK button. This completes the setup required for Netscape Messenger's email filter.
