How To Get The Most Out Of 56K
Although 56K offers the next generation of dial-up speed, there are many
things that can be done to make sure that your connection is the fastest
and most stable connection that can be made. KwikLink's 56K service supports
the new standard v.90 protocol to handle connections at this speed.
What To Expect
Although a true 56K is theoretically possible using modems that are compatible
with the v.90 standard, regulations governing the power output of devices
connected to the telephone network limit the actual speed to a maximum of
53K. In addition to these restrictions, speeds are also determined by the
condition of the phone line as well as the overall capability of the modem
to work at 56K speeds. Given these conditions, connection speeds of between
40,000-50,000 are considered normal for v.90 connections.
Upgrading The Modem
Since vendors are continually improving their modem technology to achieve
higher and higher speeds, users that are experiencing difficulties achieving
higher speeds or are having connection problems may want to check the website
of their modem vendor for possible updates. (Since v.90 was only created
in late 1998 -- any 56K modems manufactured before that time do not support
the v.90 standard and will need to be upgraded in order to take full advantage
of our 56K service).

Reporting Difficulties
If you are still experiencing difficulties, we encourage you to contact
the KwikLink support team for assistance at support@klis.com.
Please be sure to include the type of modem you are using, what access number
you are using, and what type of difficulties you are experiencing. This information
will allow us to begin isolating the possible causes of these difficulties.
