56K: Coming To A Modem Near You
-------------------------------
As many of you may be aware, there is now an international standard for
56K modems named V.90. This standard will ensure that all 56K modems will
be compatible with one another. Although modems that support this new standard
are not yet available, they should be available very soon and we are
recommending that individuals wishing to purchase a 56K modem insure that
the modem is compliant with the new V.90 standard.
KwikLink is committed to supporting the new 56K standard, we are currently
working with the telephone company to provide a special data circuit to allow
us to supply Internet connections at nearly twice the speed of a 33.6K
connection. We do not currently have an installation date for the circuit,
but once we do we will announce it to all of our users.
KwikLink To Deploy High Speed DSL Connections
---------------------------------------------
KwikLink is proud to announce a new product to enable business to
take advantage of high speed access to the Internet. This service
is part of our offerings to businesses and individuals that require
dedicated, 24 hours/day Internet access. KwikLink DSL connections
can deliver starting at 56K and up to 768Kbps of Internet bandwidth
to your business enabling you to place your own servers on the
Internet to deliver services directly to the Internet.
DSL is part of a family of products which includes ADSL, HDSL, and
VDSL. KwikLink is currently investigating these other technologies
to give high speed access directly to the home.
KwikLink DSL connections are expected to be available starting
June 1, 1998. For more information, please contact support@klis.com
KwikLink Upgrade: Phone Lines
-----------------------------
MT&T has informed us of a maintenance window that will be used
to upgrade the lines that make up the KwikLink dial pool. This
work will be performed starting on Tuesday May 12 and although
it will result in no major outages, there may be a few disconnects
during the business day while work is being performed.
Focus: Cookie Monster?
----------------------
What is a cookie?
A tasty morsel commonly found in the cookie jar?
Yes, but a cookie is also an interesting part of your web browser's
method of giving you the best possible surfing you can while on the
Internet. Cookies allow your browser to remember certain settings
so that web sites can automatically adjust themselves the next time
you visit. A good example of a site that uses cookies is the
KwikLink Personal Plus site (http://personal.klis.com/). Without
the use of cookies, the page would not remember your settings and
therefore would not be able to display a customized version the
next time you visit.
Cookies can be disabled on your browser, however, doing this may
cause problems when attempting to access sites that depend on this
ability. Sometimes errors caused by having cookies disabled are
very difficult to track down since they normally operate automatically
without any intervention by the user. KwikLink therefore recommends
that cookies are left ENABLED on your browser.
If you have any questions concerning cookies, please contact us at
support@klis.com
KwikLink is always looking for comments or suggestions on how we can
improve our services for all of our users. If you have any
suggestions, please don't hesitate to contact us at sales@klis.com
