Focus: The Neverending Hoax
---------------------------
With the Internet, like any other method of communications, there are
hoaxes, myths, and untrue stories that circulate around it. One of the
most common of these hoaxes are messages that read something like:
"Hi. Just a quick note to make you aware that there is a very serious
e-mail virus which if opened will destroy your hard drive completely.
If you get a e-mail that says:
PEN PAL GREETINGS, or
RETURNED OR UNABLE TO DELIVER
DO NOT OPEN IT. DELETE IT BEFORE OPENING IT. It will destroy your..."
Although these messages sound very authentic, they are merely a hoax that
quickly spread over the Internet because they usually sound very convincing.
Fortunately, you can NOT spread a virus to your computer simply by reading
a message no matter what the message might be called or what might be in
the message.
Focus: Personal Web Space
-------------------------
One of the most commonly asked questions that we receive tends to center
around the question of how to access the Personal Web space that comes with
most KwikLink Accounts.
The first step is to create the homepage that you wish to put on-line.
There are a number of ways to do this - the easiest of which is to use
an HTML editor such as Netscape Page Composer (part of Netscape Communicator).
Once you have created your homepage, your next step is to upload it to
the server so that others may view it.
Your Homepage Will Be Located At: http://home.klis.com/~YourUsername/
If you are using an HTML Editor, then you can use that program's publishing
capabilities to send your webpage to the server. If not, you can download
an FTP program from ftp://ftp.ipswitch.com/Ipswitch/Product_Downloads/ws_ftple.exe
to do the job.
Use the following information:
FTP Host: home.klis.com
Username: -your dial-up username-
Password: -your dial-up password-
Again, if you have any difficulties, please don't hesitate to contact
support@klis.com for assistance.
KwikLink is always looking for comments or suggestions on how we can
improve our services for all of our users. If you have any
suggestions, please don't hesitate to contact us at sales@klis.com
