Thank you for agreeing to consider the possibility of Marine Atlantic becoming involved as a donor of a prize for the "All Saint's" - Trick or Treat Draw to be held on October 31, 1998. As we discussed, the purpose of this draw is to raise money in order to expand our radio communications system which is presently interfaced with the system used by the Yarmouth Royal Canadian Mounted Police. The plan is to sell tickets for $2.00 each. In all there will be 40-50 winners drawn on October 31st at noon in the Yarmouth High School Gymnasium.
For your information, I have enclosed, along with this fax transmission, a summary sheet of our project which is also going to be implemented by several schools across Nova Scotia this fall. This project has been successfully run in the Yarmouth area for the past four years. Given its success and positive response from both within and without our community, I believe that this project has the potential to become both a provincial and national program. The need for this program in our communities is definitely high given the high vandalism and crime rates; the interest for participating in such a program is present among the vast majority of young people attending our high schools; and the support is present in the form of the RCMP and other community-based interest groups and business such as yours.
Exactly what form the gift, if any, Marine Atlantic would like to donate is subject to your judgment. We have been very fortunate in having many businesses donate very attractive gifts. As I told you, this is the only year we will be running this raffle as it is for a specific project. Therefore, we will not be coming back year after year. In addition, I will be issuing a formal receipt for the value of the gift and Marine Atlantic's name, the prize and value of your prize will appear on all of our posters and publicity. I sincerely hope that Marine Atlantic will consider becoming a donor in this very exciting and provincially recognized community project. Personally, I feel that the projects fits very well into the corporate message of community that has been promoted by your company.
